that news story reminds me of a book i read

Apparently, I am only reading sequels of books I haven't read.

Even more bizarre is the fact that life seems to be imitating fiction. A mummified fetus wrapped in newspaper was found in Delray this week. The newspaper dates from January 9, 1957 and reports news from New York and New Jersey.

Further reports indicate that the baby is a boy and the University of Florida will help in trying to identify the baby. A radio news report stated that the woman who found the baby will have a DNA test to see if her own mother gave birth to the baby 50 years ago.

The original story is reprinted below. Additional updates can be found at the Sun-Sentinel - here, here and here.

The strangest part to me is that no one locally seems to be making a connection to Buchanan's book. Or maybe it is just me.

Fetus found in suitcase in Delray Beach storage unit

Delray Beach -- Police were called to a storage company when a woman emptying her dead parents' old unit Monday made a grisly find.

Emergency personnel at first weren't sure what the woman had found at Security Self Storage, 189 Linton Blvd., but "medical examiners confirmed that it was a human fetus," police spokesman Jeff Messer said.

Medical examiners will conduct an autopsy to determine the time and cause of the death, Messer said.

The woman, who police declined to identify Monday night, flew down from New Jersey after receiving a letter stating that the contents of her parent's storage unit would be auctioned off because the rent had not been paid for a while, police said.

She began to rummage through the storage unit and came across a big suitcase with a smaller suitcase inside, police said.

Once she opened the small suitcase shortly after 6 p.m., the woman found something wrapped in old newspapers that resembled a fetus and called for help.
